This Lens Takes Pictures From Nine Angles at Once to Make a 3D Image

Researchers at Ohio State University have a made a lens that simultaneously takes pictures of an object from nine angles, images which are then combined to make a 3-D one. The lens, informs The Engineer, "is claimed to be the first single, stationery lens to create microscopic 3D images by itself."

Apart from mis-spelling "stationary", this article does not entirely back up its claim. Nine 2-D images do not of themselves produce a true 3-D image unless at least 3 of the optical axes are orthogonal.

Perhaps it does give a 3D image, but looks like it is limited to small items, unless the lens is created on a mamoth scale.
