As the HTV2 disintegrated the black box was jettisoned and fell to the earth somewhere near New Zealand.

The article mentions it transmits until it hits the ground. I guess if it is in constant contact and transmits all applicable data right up until the 'host body' (read space vessel) breaks up then it doesn't need to survive, but that would defeat the whole purpose of having it able to re-enter earths atmosphere to transmit. Can't they just use a modern low power transmitter that just transmits continuously (like a plane black box but instead of storing the data continuously it just transmits it).

I will have a look out back in the garden for it just in case.

Surely this is a vicious and unprovoked attack by Japan on the beautiful "land of the long white cloud".

I don't know who the aggressors should be most afraid of - the resolute local population or the millions of attack sheep who (through long association) have developed a great hatred of humans.
