Microsoft to Buy Skype

Posted May 10, 2011 12:26 PM

From New York Times:

Microsoft announced on Tuesday that it would buy Skype Global for $8.5 billion in cash, in its largest acquisition ever. In Skype, Microsoft is buying the leader in Internet voice and video communications, with 107 million users per month connected for more than 100 minutes a month on average. That large and active user base represents a major asset, Steven A. Ballmer, Microsoft's chief executive, said in an interview. "It's an amazing customer imprint," Mr. Ballmer said. Yeah, like we really need a more invasive Microsoft...
Roll on 1984... we're already past it.
Surely they can buy up the whole GPS network and every phone system too?

I don't use it although it is installed on my work PC. Now that Microsoft has bought it, the price will go up and the level of service will plummet.

I believe Skype has totally disclaimed sutability for any emergency purpose from day one. It's written in licence agreement. Acquisition was based on that. Similar company philosophies so all OK. S.M.

I interpret this as yet another battle in the anti-Open Source wars raging in the US. From SCO to Oracle to Microsoft to Apple- they all seem to be following a strategy to destroy the Open Source concept. If you can't shut them down with law suits, buy them and close the doors...

"It's an amazing customer imprint,"
WALOOB... typical marketing executive nonsense juxtaposition of random words, I'd like to imprint a wet fish across his face... nah, waste of good fish.
