Is LEED Certification Worth It?

Getting LEED certification for a building can be a painstaking, time-consuming and expensive process. Some projects require certification, but for others it's an investment made in hopes of returns from a higher sales price on the building and eventually additional rent from tenants. In your experience, are these returns typically realized, or is the LEED investment often wasted?

NO!

Go simple and go green where it makes sense.

Spending your money on a certification is an option for people who don't have a clue as the right thing to do. ..which is not a good starting point .. economically speaking.

There is no such thing as affordable housing or commercial space that was created under LEED regulation.

If it's being sold as the road to higher sales and rent, it's because it goes hand in hand with the mortgage and overspending on all aspects of construction.

GA. I agree fully. Certifications are eye-wash. Ultimately what really matters is the utility bill. That (almost) never lies.

Agreed,

I design LEED buildings all day long, and it is pointless. Good engineers design good/functioning efficient buildings. I don't need a silly checklist for that.
