Cordon Multi-Target Photo-Radar System Leaves No Car Untagged

Go easy on the gas, Speed Racer, because Cordon is on its way. Developed by Simicon, this new speed sensor promises to take highway surveillance to new heights of precision. Unlike most photo radar systems, which track only one violator at a time, Simicon's device can simultaneously identify and follow up to 32 vehicles across four lanes.

I am sort of surprised the vocal 'Red Light Camera' bunch here at CR4 have yet to chime in on this. That is what this is; a great big autonomous speed trap.

That aside, if there was a valid reason other than a money grab by ticketing as many people as possible for exceeding a set speed limit. Most people will drive at a speed they perceive to be safe for the road. That said if these "speed scameras" were set to record at a speed that was sufficiency high that there would be considered to be unsafe for the road or conditions then people might not complain as much. Because the LEO's could still stop you for exceeding the limit.

Also in the video and pictures if there was a visual metrics on the ground "stripes at set intervals" that would give a rough estimate of speed with a frame count/speed(like in video production editing) that could NOT be modified. To keep everyone honest. NOT.

When you take the private company out of the revenue loop so they can not collect on any ticket, just a flat rate fee then we might talk. Also on the "red light scameras" if appropriate timed yellow lights with a few seconds before the oppose red light went green could/ would cut down on wrecks. I believe there has been reports on this. here a news link.

Don't get me started on how the camera companies could modified the video/pictures before submitting them to the police department. With revenue on the line they could.

With the computer power to generate realistic computer graphics. How hard could it be to change the color on the lights from one to another. In the pictures the light never moves the lit color can be sampled as the unlit color could also. Its such a small area in the total picture that once the modified image is re-recorded I don't think it could be detected. The whole system could be automated and a set rate of "failures" be generated for the profit. There is no check or balance with the system that when an anonymous corporation summits the picture evidence your guilty. How can you fight that. Pictures can lie. Go watch any new movie and tell me everything you saw was real. Also check this site. Then tell me what was/is real and is not.

Here is the formula for the yellow interval. I got it off the Arizona's site but it is the same everywhere I know of. The MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devises) state they should be no shorter than 3 seconds and no longer than 6 with 6 seconds reserved for high speed approaches.

Section 600 - Traffic Signals

Phase Change Interval Calculation
(1) Minimum yellow vehicle change interval = t1 + t2
Reaction time (t1 = 1) + Deceleration time t2 = 1.47V
2a
For downgrades , use the following formula:
t2 = 1.47 V
(2a + 64.4g) where g = % grade divided by 100
(downhill is negative grade)

PRE-CALCULATED YELLOW INTERVALS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS
