Geesh, most of the people I encounter on my daily commute can barely drive and chew gum at the same time let alone yak on a cell phone and drive......now the internet while driving as a further distraction?

Christ I hope I am retired and no longer have to commute when this idiocy makes it's debut.

I know, I know, it's a great idea and of course will only be used while the vehicle is in park, right

Agreed. What a joke! Nobody driving today has any formal training and most barely know where to put the fuel.

Drinking coffee, hair brushing, lipstick application, smoking, talking on the cell phone, eating and watching the kids fight in the back seat already take 90% of the brain power sitting behind the wheel and now mindless internet surfing is being added into the mix?

The way I see it that means that most people driving modern cars will be the functional equivalent of a deaf, dumb and blind person driving a 6,000 pound projectile down the road at 20 over the speed limit.

The only good news is that it may help to thin out the gene pool.

Yup, I hear ya!

Coincidently, after I posted here this morning, during lunch, I read in the local news paper automobile section that Acura has released limited internet access in some models already.

While thinning out the gene pool is one great idea maybe I'll just go ahead and apply to work out of my home office or just say screwge it and apply for early retirement

The list you give is a perfect example of multi-tasking that I see regularly on the roads. I am jealous, as a dumb male I can only manage to mono-task when driving.

Close. You will start the car, take it to the end of the driveway, enter destination and intermediate way-points, log on to the traffic net, sit back and enjoy the internet while the vehicle takes you where you want to go. Google is almost there. And your vehicle will be powered by electricity generated onboard with a turbogen running on 130-proof cellulosic ethanol from IRE.

103 proof through a rubidium reformer gives you 160 percent of the hydrogen out of the alcohol. (60% more from the HOH) way cheaper to produce than gas.

Is that 103 a typo? How much does the Rubidium technology add to the price per kw generated? I dont care how much energy floats around, my primary consideration is how much did it cost to get to work and back. High efficiency turbogen getting the "steam kick" from wet ethanol seems to be the cheapest and greenest way to go for now. And I have a couple of good recipes for sale when the Arabs need to eat their oil. If they can behave like decent people, I can show them how to grow food in their desert.

No it is not.

The 103 proof was found to be optimum.

It was ran through two layers of open cell ceramic foam coated with rhodium ( sorry wrong element) as a catalyst using a spark plug and pre heater to start the process.

It results in a self sustaining exothermic reaction at 700o C.

Principle products are Hydrogen and CO2.

At 103 proof there was no soot build up and minute CO formation.

Published in Science magazine Feb 13 2004.

Cost is minimal and the hydrogen is available for turbine or fuel cell.

Also has an ability for as needed production of hydrogen. ie no need for fancy hydrogen storage.

After publication it was never commented on. My guess it they would like it to stay that way.

Now that gets my attention. I am seriously interested in this developmen as an ethanol producer working with vehicle developers. Is licensing the technology an available option? Does this forum allow for website URLs as a means of contact? www.ire-incorp.com george

Now if they restricted it to cars communicating with cars, and the cars could determine that there's an idiot behind the wheel...that could be interesting!

Talk about dumb!!!!

First of all, most states in the US will be making cell phone use, while driving, illegal.

Secondly, most cell phones these days are little computers that are coming with larger screens and 4G connections...............including internet.

So the technology is already here...............................incorporating it into a car could be accomplished with a little piece of velcro on the dash.

To become 'Norm'? The guy from Cheers? If that include a big brewski and a bowl of peanuts, count me in.

My phone is already my dash mounted navigator. I would like it if my car was the 4g antenna and let my phone piggy back on WiFi.

Then I would be able to drink coffee, smoke, eat, shave, clean my teeth, and read the news paper while talking on the phone (hands free of course) without worrying about my battery going dead!

Sorry Guys, no 4G yet. Just a sales gimmick to sell phones. Yes they are 3G plus versions but not the 4G standard. There are, last I heard 3 of 4 places in the world that have set up a real local 4G network but last I knew none of the sold as "4G" phones can actually do 4G.

Sheesh the police over this side of the pond have cameras to detect people using phones in cars. Lady I know got $1000 fine and lost 4 points off her license. She did get a nice photo of the offence.

The local rozzers will have a field day when this comes in, it will flash up on your screen via internet with a pic, fine and demerit points, plus "please swipe you credit card now or your car will be disabled!"
