Cell phones can certainly be an annoyance and I can sympathize with anyone who has to listen to rude people in a restaurant or on a bus or train. Jamming the signal may seem a good thing, but it also presents problems. It may actually be a violation of the first amendment, by interfering with a person's freedom of speech. It is legal in certain instances, like within a secure facility that has to prevent secrets from being leaked. It can be bad if an emergency required someone to summons help like in an accident or plane hi-jacking. I don't have any answer, but I think jamming is not the solution.

Think about a group of thieves on a crowded bus. No one can call for help.

On the other hand, there have been lots of times I would have loved to have one.

Mobile Man gets into a crowded commuter train at Waterloo, heading home. By Woking, he is still clattering in a loud voice.

"Hello, Darling. Yes, I'm going to be a bit later than I said earlier. No, I'm not flirting with that floosie in Accounts. It's you I want. No-one else. Yes, dear. Yes, I'll be home as soon as I can...."

Fed up with all this rubbish and with the phone call still running, the woman opposite pipes up in a loud voice, "Come on, Darling. Turn that damn phone off and come back to bed!"

There are ways......
