Thor-Stand Ladder Leveler Promises to End Roof-Hanging Hijinx

Posted March 28, 2012 7:57 AM

From Gizmodo:

Ladders are like bears-they don't work on hills very well. A bear's shoulders aren't built to extend far enough forward to run downhill effectively and a ladder's legs are just as useless. The new clamp-on Thor-Stand, however, could help ladders tackle downhills with aplomb.

I bought a ladder leveler from Home Depot nine years ago, kind of like this one, and it cost me around $40 not $320. Works fine. This particular one costs around $90:

I've been using these for years with no problems. The Thor looks like a non starter. I don't think people that have to climb ladders for a living are going to want to fight their way through vegetation with one of those giant things on the bottom.

They have actually come up with a version of those that you don't have to plug into the wall, old timer.

You'd better get ready for a big influx of construction and construction worker bodies.

A contractor I know is going to "some place just south of Minot" to wire tons of new construction for the oil boom.

There goes the neighborhood.

They have been coming for about 3 years now so thats not new news.

The only ones complaining are the old town contractors and businesses that paid crap while charging high rates.

To give you an idea about 4 - 5 years ago we got a super Walmat store here and the local businesses went nuts fighting it because they didn't want Walmart coming in and hiring all their good workers away at better pay rates.

For the working class here the oil boom and related building and support infrastructure influx as been a god send! For those of us with skills and good work credentials we can now pretty much write our own ticket and pick who we want to work for and how much we will get paid!

The days of working 12 hours a day for $9 an hour while being billed out to the customer for $100+ an hour are basically gone.

I'm really rooting for you guys. The current administration has the audacity to try to claim credit for the boom, and say that they created it.

I hope the states that are experiencing this good fortune have sense enough to vote for people that promise to get as far away from the Washington teat as possible.

The rest of us need proof to hold up, that says that Washington does not have to be a big factor in our lives.

I miss the days of abundant work for anyone that was willing to go do it.

Most political comments here are well thought out to the person making them...this forum gives us a place to vent.

You won't have a kneejerk reaction if all you do is kneel.

My political comments appear to be knee jerk, but they are based on current information as I understand it. I doubt that anyone noticed, but I sneak them in whenever I can.

And yeah, I don't have, nor want, much of a social life, so this is where I do my talking....................amongst friends. I have no expectations of having people agree with me. In fact, I enjoy the debate.

tcmtech, good for you folks! Make as much $$$ as you can while you can. At least someone in this country is finally making a decent wage, no thanks to the Nobama Administration....

If it wasn't for the harsh winters out there in ND and the missile silos (ONE BIG TARGET) I'd be moving out there myself to grab some gusto!

Well so far the missile silos and ND in general have had a 100% zero bombing record since day one whereas how many people have been killed in the cities everywhere else by who knows what?

Oklahoma bombing, World trade centers, pearl harbor? need I say more?

The winters however are how we weed out the soft, the lazy, and the witness protection program people from the rest of us.

Not in the same category. I am disgusted by Timothy McVeigh's method, but his message was valid.

I simply picked three different bombing events that happened for three different reasons in US history and not one of them ever happened in ND let alone over our missile silos.

In fact this is the worst bombing event our state has had that has even been news worthy. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/north-dakota-confronts-nasty-trucker-bomb-problem-article-1.1050862

BTW you can have your own still and never be hassled for emissions compliances on anything either. Still sound like a bad place to live?

Between bribery and extortion, they will own you.

Wasn't that picture of the man hanging actually a prank by the home owner?

Also, the only real benefit of the thor-stand over the two alternatives mention by members is it "Broadens ladder base by 100 percent".
