Re: Boeing's Engine Fan Upgrade ... (another efficiency improvement)

05/24/2012 10:22 AM

I, just as most others (I am certain), am impressed as all-get-out with what Boeing (and others) have done in recent decades, to improve air travel / transport.

It doesn't require "Media-Hype" to announce each and every advancement that is made, though...

Most dictionaries agree:

max·i·mize ~ verb (used with object)
1. to increase to the greatest possible amount or degree

So...(as the article says): "...the diameter of the engine's fan is being increased from 68 inches to 69 inches as part of engine optimization plans that will continue for about the next year..."

Fuel efficiency hasn't been "maximized" (yet) by any stretch of the imagination. It is an ongoing process that currently exhibits measurable room for improvement, just as with the IC gas engine.

Don't quit yet , guys ... keep those improvements coming!
