What To Expect When Your Racing Trans Goes Ka-blooey

Posted October 05, 2012 9:00 AM by CarDomain

A Bangshift reader captured the aftermath of the grenaded transmission in Denny Parker's Super Bee following a hard launch at Arroyo Seco Raceway in New Mexico. Though Denny managed to remain miraculously unhurt, the force of the explosion perforated the transmission tunnel, spraying shrapnel and hot fluid into the passenger compartment. Might be time to invest in a scatter-shield, as Brian Lohnes suggests! More pics below the jump, and see the entire series at Bangshift.

Looks more like the torque converter exploded similar to a clutch or flywheel coming apart. Tranny damage was a result of transmission housing being part of the victim with the car. Lucky to have feet intact..Get the blanket for sure.

Is this covered by warranty?

Can you explain why your torque converter costs $300 more than that other companie's converter?

It was going OK while it was in L aunch, but it went really bad when I shifted into R ace.
