Product Alert: Classic Wrecks

Posted October 12, 2012 9:00 AM by CarDomain

Do you ever fear that you're reaching that tipping point where you're liking the demolished beauty of rotting junkyard hulks as much as you love the super-shiny look of perfectly restored show cars? This guy has turned the fascination with junk into a serious for-profit hobby, recreating the ravages of automotive decomposition on the hundreds of "distressed" scale-model cars he builds to sell on Etsy.

There is a junk car lot a couple miles from where I live, that most visitors to my house have to drive past. Whenever someone visiting my house comments about that place I just say, 'Oh, you mean the overflow parking area for the Willie Nelson concert?'

That usually gets a laugh.

There's been a market for photos and calendars with rotting cars for a long time now, but this modeler's idea takes it to a whole new level. Personally I prefer models of pristine cars, and models or pictures of rotting cars makes me want to fix those cars (if only I had the time and money!).
