Design to 'Harpoon Satellites'

Posted October 03, 2012 7:09 AM

From BBC News - Science & Environment:

UK engineers are developing a system to harpoon rogue or redundant satellites and pull them out of the sky. It is a response to the ever growing problem of orbital junk - old pieces of hardware that continue to circle the Earth and which now pose a collision threat to operational spacecraft.

Should this not be in the new space section instead of "General"?

Where is Out of Box Experience when you need him?

Yeah, the TV cameras were a pain at the KrisDelTM labs.
Our first design was a Squig on a string (cue mission impossible music and famous squig advert'...)

Yeah, a whole new breed of sailors. 'Sailing' the heavens, harpooning satellites and selling them for the recylables. Who is going to go up there and mark the ones destined for harpooning? And I wouldn't want to be the Captain who hauls in an active satellite.

"Argh, I know I seen a mark on it before I shot it"
