Bartendro Robot Lands On Kickstarter, Wields Raspberry Pi

If you prefer robot bartenders to lack limbs that could be used against you in the impending robopocalypse, Bartendro might be your kind of bot. After two years of building and tweaking, the folks at Party Robotics have finally polished theirRaspberry Pi-powered cocktail-making rig and have posted it to Kickstarter.

Yeesh...

From what I gather from the article, the device in the image costs $2,500 US bucks.

You would sure think that, for that kind of money, it might be a little cleaner, a little more professional. Looks like it was hacked together in a garage.

I don't see where the costs are coming from, personally. Raspberry Pi costs $25, a peristaltic pump can't be more than $200 (tops, and some savvy shopping could bring that down quite a bit) and there's tubing, containers and some metal framework. I could hop onto Craigslist, get some free scrap metal and weld a more aesthetically pleasing (and probably more functional if I had time to think) frame than what I'm seeing.

Maybe the price tag comes with a year supply of liquor, in which case, they might be taking a hit in profits

Agreed, I don't see any magic in the mechanism or control. There certainly isn't any gingerbread either!
