English Premier League To Adopt Goal-Line Technology Next Season, Hawk-Eye To Be The Provider

Posted April 12, 2013 9:35 AM

From Engadget RSS Feed:

Football's ruling body, FIFA, has already decided that goal-line technology will be used at next year's World Cup in Brazil, which, in and of itself, was an indirect nod for other competitions to follow suit.

Woo hoo.
It's only taken about 10 years.
The FA moves about as fast as a dead tortoise.
But at least we are going to be first... is it any wonder that many people despair of any European organisations (I use the term 'organisation' in it's loosest possible sense)

The NHL has used goal line camara technology for several decades. It is long overdue in soccer (er...football). I would like to see some of the technology extend to challenge some of the dives now taking place. I refer to those that result in a carding and when you watch the replay on TV it was obviously a dive. Diving is killing the game more than the missed goals but diving is not taken seriously. The clutching of one's ankle or head for several minutes and then get up to run like a gazelle is somewhat disheartening to watch. Like American Football (not soccer), the coach should be given a red flag to throw onto the field to ask for a review. Limit the red flags to two or three per game and stop the clock to watch the review in slo-mo. I can think of many rule changes but being from North America puts one's credentials in low esteem with FIFA. OK, also with many European fans

Indeed.
Unless you are an old Frenchman or Swiss you will be held in low esteem.
The English are considered the lowest of the low because we had the temerity to invent the game. We are also consistently branded as hooligans when elsewhere in Europe they routinely throw fireworks and flares, racially abuse players and attack opposing fans often with knives. But that's ok, 'cos it's just Latin 'temerament'.
It's a shame the US hasn't embraced 'soccer' more and it's a shame the womens game isn't given more air time.
At the Olympics the womens matches were far more entertaining than the mens and some of the goals were of worls class quality regardless of gender.
