New York City Is Using Data Mining to Fight Fires

Helmets? Check. Breathing tanks? Check. Hoses? Ditto. Algorithms? Yep: the New York City Fire Department is using data mining to predict which of the city's buildings are at highest risk of catching fire. Now that's metadata we can get behind.

So this works concurrently with the fire inspector?

New York,.......... it does figure, when they wonder if their streets are plowed from the snow, they don't look outside, they look on the computer. (not bad if planning your route, I guess) They even have a snowplow czar, which they can't please everyone.

What happened to that old adage, "...where there's smoke, there's fire..."? and, no computers required.

Inpecting (1) more often and (2) more thoroughly will tell them same info.
