NASA Can Now Forecast Sinkholes

Posted March 08, 2014 8:41 PM

From Ars Technica:

Two years ago, a giant sinkhole swallowed trees whole in a Louisiana bayou. This year, Nasa says it could have predicted it. It might sound like too little too late, but with five-to-ten times more sinkholes occurring in this country because of the wet weather this year, any potential tool for mapping precarious landmasses will be most welcome. The sinkhole Nasa is basing its study on, near Bayou Corne, was a monster measuring 10.1 hectares. It was 229m (751ft) deep by the time it ceased swallowing everything in sight. In a paper published in the journal Geology, Cathleen Jones and Ron Blom, from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, have shown how radar data captured by Nasa's Uninhabited Airborne Vehicle Synthetic Aperture Radar (UAVSAR) between 2011 and 2012 could have been used to predict the natural catastrophe.

To bad they didn't predict this one. They could have parked those Corvettes somewhere else.

I might make an interesting archeological discovery in a few thousand years. Perhaps they will think the Corvettes are some sort of sarcophagus.

Or they may think it could have been a nesting grounds............ Or maybe a catastrophe like a meteor because they speculate is that the Corvette was a herding animal with so many found is such a small area and capable of running 160 MPH.................

Two years ago, a giant sinkhole swallowed trees whole in a Louisiana bayou. Just a few second ago, Kris says he predicted it. He's also on the lookout for more funding.

I worked with a nephew of my boss (he owned the company) like that......,........

"I knew that was going to happen......"

He never cared for me because I would challenge and with a question such as "If you knew, what did you do to advert it?"

I hear now he was promoted to Vice President of the company.

And NASA would know where MH370 was if their satellites or drones were watching it, too.

woulda, coulda, shoulda...all worth nil.

There might very well be knowledge of exactly where the plane went down within some security agency in the US or another country. Would you be willing to expose an expensive secret surveillance system, just so that the families know where in the water their loved ones perished?

If any surveillance system has information, it will come out slowly as long as the threat to life has passed. Knowing sooner is a human kindness issue.

I guess, but 'slowly' might be decades.
