More Power from Light Winds

Posted March 23, 2014 3:56 PM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Would a 20% increase in low-wind performance improve your bottom line? Two Rutgers researchers have developed a blade deflector that takes advantage of tangential forces wasted by typical blades. Laboratory-scale models confirm computer simulations, and the technology was recently licensed to a commercial technology vendor. Even a fractional 5% power increase translates to a 20% profit improvement, notes Wind Power Engineering.

I subscribe to that magazine. They don't often print crap, but this one doesn't pass the smell test. I was OK with "They re-invented winglets." I lost it at "easily attached."
