There's nothing like proper acclimatization, and training the way you play. The US team trained in Florida for the last couple of weeks, and have a week in Brazil before their first match. I wonder if there are side effects like increased injury risk or lowered performance from pre-cooling. Usually you want to "warm up," not cool down, before being athletic.

There's a big difference between warming up and overheating....It's called hyperthermia...not to be confused with hypothermia, which is the body temp dropping below norm....Body temperature regulation is key to optimum physical performance....

Sure, which is why the idea of cooling occurs to anyone. I'm not questioning the desired goal, just the efficacy. Getting cold for a few minutes then playing hard for about 120 minutes (assuming they don't cool during halftime) doesn't seem to make much difference to me. But getting cold then playing hard without warm-up poses an injury risk.

Swigging and splashing ice-cold water is the old-school standby approach to avoiding overheating. That, and getting used to the climate you're in. I assume they won't be taking breaks to put on their ice vests for a few minutes, just to get presumably cold water. I'll be looking for outcomes that might come my way.

There's no way these guys go 2 hrs without cooling down....more likely every 15-20 minutes....Having worked in high heat, I can tell you this is standard procedure...You don't get that cold, you just cool down to a tolerable level....

If my team used a traditional, low tech suit at training, it would be more effective than this garb*ge to deal with high temp. (LOL) S.M.

Get them to train in double clothing - they will then feel cool when playing for real?

jt.

I was shopping in the supermarket with the wife when all of a sudden she said,

"Do you know you are such a lazy ba**tard"!

I was so shocked I almost fell out of the trolley.
