Except that courts have already slapped the FAA on the wrist about this issue.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-03-06/drone-pilot-s-fine-dropped-by-judge-finding-against-faa.html

"An administrative law judge determined the FAA had no authority over small unmanned aircraft when it imposed the first-ever such fine on a drone operator."

Once again, stupidity trumps sanity.

If upheld, that means that any bozo can fly around taking unauthorized pictures in our back yards and buzzing innocent people trying to enjoy a little peace on their own property.

I'm with Del on this one. Shoot 'em out of the sky!

Anyone who wants to fly an aircraft -- manned or unmanned -- in U.S. airspace needs some level of FAA approval."
Give me a break! I have been flying RC airplanes since i was 16 years old.

what is it with experimental aircraft, FAA seems more (for the lack of a better term) 'relaxed' about that.........

The intentional flight path of hobby RC aircraft is normally away from innocent people and in an area clear enough that the "pilot" hopes unplanned landings will result in both a repairable aircraft and no one calling the police.

The drones are often to carry a payload and fly in cities, over highways, etc. We will have people both hit by the drone and cut by propellers. Drones will hit and possibly go through windshields. A motorcycle rider going down the road at 70 MPH and hitting a 20 pound drone coming at him at 35 MPH is likely on his last ride. As the drones become bigger and fly higher they will down aircraft with people on board.

I'm sure some will say that people who buy drones will maintain and operate them properly. Every day I'm on the highway with cars full of people that are not maintained or operated properly. I don't see how the "$1000 drone from Ebay" crowd can be expected to do better.

If anyone is interested in studying law there is a huge market opening up for drone lawsuits.
