"The engineers at Hyundai have come up with a way to save speeders from their own bad habits."

What, do they now install a speed governor on their cars?

Why not make it invisible to red light cameras too?

It is not outfoxing the camera, it is more like forced compliance.

This'll be fun when you are driving in the fast lane and the car single-mindedly slows down...

...and then you get a ticket for driving too slow in the fast lane...

We are all going to kill ourselves like lambs....which are born looking for ways to die.

They didn't give any indication if this 'minimum speed' law is supposed to apply during the rush hour congestion as well.

If all traffic is slowed to, say, 15MPH below the limit (Since they give you 5MPH above, they should give 5MPH below as well) would they just be ticketing all the motorists the entire highway?

The whole thing seems goofy to me, since there is a long-standing law in most states for "impeding the flow of traffic".

I would imagine the left lane being completely empty during rush-hour traffic because the high volume would preclude "passing" the vehicles in the lane to the right. That's the way the laws are stacking up...but are uninforceable for the most part.

We just fully legalized the sale and use of recreational marijuana in Washington State today. The argument for legalization was that it was too hard and costly to regulate with laws and the crime was too petty for all of the legal battles.

Speeding seems to be the same....seeing as it is so common that we need to ban and fine people for doing the speed limit in the "fast lane"...ticketed for "doing the speed limit"

Sounds like a fine time to eliminate all speeding tickets to me. It costs too much to regulate, is mostly uninforceable, and everybody is doing it anyway.

Brilliant, but won't this render the point of speed cameras obsolete. No, not to make money but to get the drivers to drive at a sensible speed all the time, not just when they are in an area with a speed camera.

Very few people would voluntarily employ this in their car, which means that the FDOT would have to mandate that it was on every car and on 100% of the time.

While some people would be happy living a controlled life where nothing bad could/would happen to them by surrendering control of their life to a governing authority, most will ultimately shun it.

It will likely get through to people due to cleaver marketing (who wants a speeding ticket if they can help it).

Just another step towards getting people used to the autonomous car.

So, now I can drive 100 MPH on any city street and feel secure that I will be warned before I can get a ticket?

OH, and those idiots who drive out in front of me or that kid chasing his ball into the street had better look out!

Real smart!

If you want big brother just make legal a tachograph in each car (lorries have them in the UK) with all travel details sent in / collected by the enforcement dept. Any over/under the limit is auto. fined. Doubled, if not paid within 1 month, and vehicle forfeit after then, vehicle sold by auction if the fine not paid. Look out if these are the rules. Enforced social awareness.

Drugs? Well here we go again: All drugs are confiscated and, instead of destroying them, are purified (where necessary) as fit for human consumption and, distributed freely (one fix only at a time) to the poor addicts who, instead of having to steal, etc.. can get one free at special local clinics. With the money taken out of the equation trafficking would fall and the afflicted possibly weaned off. With less theft shoplifting and violence the world would slowly become a better / safer place. The key is to remove the money; with restricted provision free for the afflicted. It maybe slow but effective.

Not saying it will work, or a complete answer, Just my opinion. jt

If Speed Cameras ROI become minimal......Now they need another form of revenue generation.

Get them to do something actually constructive. I say bring on the red light cameras! We have them here but they don't seem to be used for jack. 6 cars regularly driving through a red light is NOT OK. These things are not traffic flow suggestions afterall!
