How do you stimulate student interest in science, manufacturing, and technology? The Tool, Die and Machining Association of Wisconsin believes it has one answer. It has just sponsored a week-long training session for 18 high school teachers at which they designed and built a remote-controlled robot. The Association hopes teachers will replicate their experience in the classroom.

Perhaps another answer to the question is the new Lego robotics system called MindStorms. I'm buying one for my grandson as a Christmas present. Robert A. Heinlein wrote "There are three types of people in the world, Makers, Takers and Fakers". If we start early enough perhaps we can cause a reduction in the number of lawyers and an increase in the number of engineers. Did you know that China is producing 250,000 new engineers a year? WOW!!!
