Cyberprotection for Robocars

Posted February 21, 2015 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

As connected, automated cars edge closer to reality, analysts begin to identify their pros and cons. While the possibilities conjure up excitement, the dangers give pause. In this IEEE Spectrum article, two experts sketch the extent of potential cyber threats, ranging from passive snooping and the jamming of transmissions to active manipulation and the introduction of false signals. To counter these vulnerabilities, the scientists recommend wrapping these vehicles in overlapping layers of armor, consisting of secure global navigation satellite systems, authentication based on encryption, and misbehavior detection technology.

Talk about a tough issue to make 100%. All computer MFG's have failed with securing their products from hacking to date. What do the car MFG's think they can build a better mouse trap from hackers? And it's not just adverse hackers but our very Government that also hacks, if they screw up and you are not the target, but your car is by missing 1 digit. Software and OS need to be made much more secure it is before we have autonomous vehicles that are safe. Cyber criminals need to be eliminated though.

(weekly hangings public square Saturday's at high noon)

Would you have imagined : well-founded mistrust of Government as a consequence of illegitimate snooping here already! It would take some kind of a revolution in transparency to make a framework of regulated safety acceptable. Not hard to see the problem.

Public hangings are a fine thing provided you get the right guys ( both genders ).

Real bass players will take a run at anything ; I'd like to see you try Wipeout or 19th Nervous Breakdown or Under Pressure without a pick.

Government eliminating cyber criminals ? That's a joke, local police can't even eliminate hoodie wearing bandana face covering street hanging out punk thugs. Robot cars another evolutionary human folly mindless drones. The elite controls the puppets and the multitudes become excess baggage for the waste bin.
