Reading the Human Heart - Part 1

If you could read another's heart, what would you want to know? For cardiologists, new imaging technologies provide a way to detect and diagnose heart problems sooner than later. The Biograph TruePoint PET∙CT, as described in Breast Cancer: Looking from the Outside In, is one such bio-imaging system from Siemens Medical Solutions. Simply, the Siemens Biograph offers incredible resolution and quality in order to improve a patient's treatment options. Along with the oncologists who use the Biograph TruePoint PET∙CT, cardiologists can use the device with a PET∙CT Cardiology Engine allowing them to implement a streamlined cardiology workflow.

Biograph Breakdown

It's Biograph breakdown time! How do imaging devices such as the PET CT improve cardiac diagnostics? For starters, features such as the LSO HI-REZ PET offer a 250% improvement in volumetric resolution of scans. Simply put, this gives doctors a better opportunity to detect tiny lesions that were once undetectable. By using a higher light output, the LSO enables the formation of truly tiny detector crystals. The smaller the crystal size, the greater the number of crystals. This finer spatial resolution permits the creation of more image planes, which in turn allows for smaller sampling and enhanced lesion detection.

That was a long read. Okay, I confess, I didn't read all of it .

I was a little interested because I have a congenital heart condition called "Premature Ventricular Contraction" or PVC. My hearbeat is quite irregular but it's never bothered me. In fact, I only knew about it when I was hospitalized for food poisoning in my teens. The emergency room doc turned pale when she listened to my heart. She immediately called the resident cardiologist. When my mom arrived at the hospital, she told them of my condition. That was the first time I learned about it.

The bad news (in addition) was that my condition was incurable. 'Only way to fix it was to have a transplant. However, since it wasn't bothering me and I've been going through a normal childhood and teenhood without knowing it, the doc told my mom to let it be.

Over the years, I've consulted other doctors about it but there have been no development.
