Wireless Space Networks Are Being Tested

Posted August 07, 2015 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

NASA will begin testing Zigbee wireless links to monitor the performance of machinery upon its re-entry into Earth's atmosphere. Performance data will be captured by the Zigbee modules and relayed to Earth via satellite. The test is part of a larger NASA "wireless-in-space" effort to determine whether Zigbee and other wireless networking technologies could complement traditional wiring. Ultimately, the goal is to use wireless sensors to track equipment in space, and experts expect the test could have implications for M2M and IoT back on Earth.

Errr... isn't all communication is space wireless?

Otherwise those trailing wires would get all tangled up
