Snake-Like Charging Cable Slithers Towards Release

Posted October 12, 2015 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

You've never seen a car-charging cable like the one currently under test by automaker Tesla . It works with every all-electric S Model on the road. The "Snakebot autocharger prototype," which resembles a bendable robo-eel, automatically moves out from the wall like a snake. It connects to Tesla's charge-port door, which opens by itself when it senses a nearby charging nozzle. The new feature will use the same technology that pushes the car's door handles out when the driver approaches with the keys. You've got to see it to believe it!

Do *NOT* let the Japanese see that, just- just don't.

Some of their 'entertainment' is pretty weird by US standards, with the only saving grace being that you can't make tentacles move with that sort of focus and intelligence in real life.

This would ... I don't even want to think of what they would do with this...
