System Detects and Disables Unauthorized UAVs

Posted June 25, 2016 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Each month, the FAA receives more than 100 reports from pilots and others who spot what appear to be unmanned aircraft flying too close to an airport or manned airplane. An Anti-UAV Defense System (AUDS), to be tested by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), promises to detect a drone six miles away using electronic scanning radar. In addition, AUDS will track the drone using precision infrared and daylight cameras as well as specialist video-tracking software. Finally, it will disrupt the unauthorized UAV's flight by blocking the radio signals that control it.

And will this program be funded by taxpayer's dollars?

Or rightfully funded by a surcharge on every drone sold, as it should be?

Sure it may be passed on to consumers, but they are the cause of the disruption in the first place. Let them pay for the solution.

IMO,....After disabling the drone, the drone should be rectrieved, owners tracked by registration number on the drone and promptly billed.

Most of the people who buy and fly drones are law abiding citizens who wouldn't fly anywhere near airports. Let the law breakers pay for it.

I see Agriculture (farmers) of it being a great asset tool.

thats why drone registration will address the ones who abuse it.

So many good things are screwed up by a few idiots.

I stand by my statement. This program will cost millions, if implemented.

I'll never own a drone. Why should I have to pay to kill drones flown by a$$hole$?

We ALL pay a surcharge on cell phones every month so the unemployed slackers can have them, free!. Is that any different? They are given away by the hundreds by people stationed on the sidewalk by our state unemployment office every day.

These vendors are subject to no restrictions because they are giving the phones away to anybody who signs up. No money changes hands on the street.

Yup, the folks getting "free" stuff have more votes than the rest of us -- the inevitable "heat death" of democracy.

We live in a republic, not a democracy.

What makes you think the folks getting "free" stuff ever vote?

We live in a republic, not a democracy.

A lot of people don't realize that. Even politicians.

I believe that we're living in a democracy. It no longer bears resemblance "to the Republic for which it [the flag] stands".

Rather than complaining why don't you start a petition or party and prevent all that bothers you. You sound like a Brit, always complaining. If your military crew had not invented the drone in the first place, none of this would be an issue.

You would be complaining about kites instead. Take your military drones out of the sky, (paid by tax payers money), and the public would follow suit. The sky is there for ALL to use and NOT limited to the few who think they have all the rights.

This does have potential in stopping terrorist attacks using drones. Testing & developing it at airports makes sense.

Maybe this system would be more cost effective...
