An Engineer’s Christmas List

Posted December 14, 2016 12:00 AM by Chelsey H

Tis the season for another list of great gifts for the nerdy someone on your list. So here is a list of great gifts (and good reasons to buy them). Image credit

Because you know they’re going to overcomplicate it anyway.

Because it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Because this engineer is on the go.

Because you want them to look cool AND be safe.

Because you know they’re going to be working all the time.

Because Star Wars should keep them charged.

Because this engineer is ready to party!

Because they need ANOTHER hobby.

Because they love to eat.

Because even though they’re a little weird, you love them anyway.

Which one would you buy for yourself?

Happy Holidays!

Might just make a few of the weird ones. Everything needed I already have.

Ha Ha! I had to laugh at the toothpaste tube squeezer because that was our first engineering project. I still have the drawings. I had accumulated various junk for experimenting including things like ink rollers, mousetraps, etc. Now I cut the bottom off the tube and swirl my toothbrush around the inside. To dislodge the glob stuck in the neck I blow on it. You would be surprised how much I get. A couple weeks worth.

The engineer's field pack is nothing compared to the backpack I had the last year of school. I bought all my books and went to a big box store and bought one they would all fit in. It must have weighed forty pounds and kept getting heavier. And I would haul it to school on the back of my bicycle. I wondered why it kept getting harder to climb the hills.

Nowadays I participate in organized bike rides and my fanny pack and pannier resemble the purse in the old pop song "She Can't Find Her Keys". I carry have tools. food. lights, first aid kit, fowl weather gear, hard case notebook for maps and paperwork. An extra rucksack is case I need to stop for groceries (beer) on the way home from the ride. And for the hell of it I threw in my old Boy Scout compass.

One time my neighbor baked a pie in a square pan so I placed a note on it that read "πr2".

This is what I am buying for myself for Christmas.

I found out this is what the guys down in the shop use to get at screws in impossibly tight locations. All the good tips I learn from the guys (and gals) in the shop I can't possibly re-pay. So I bring them in some home-baked cookies and stuff from time-to-time.

No. 7331 http://chapmanmfg.com/products/7331

All the usual caveats.
