Buzz Me There from Anywhere

Posted August 15, 2007 11:30 AM by Sharkles

GPS navigation, plus directional buzzers, delivers you to your destination. Essentially, the experimental device is a way to walk to, from, and around your chosen destinations. The novel device comprises buzzing rings that you wear on your left and right hands, a controller with GPS, an electronic compass, and a display into which you can enter postal and zip codes.

A larger and more needed use for the buzzing ring gps would be for blind people. The blind community is quite large world wide and this could help with navigation. This wouldn't eliminate the need for a blind stick(white cane) or guide dog, but it would be a huge confidance builder. I'm sure you could find a voulinteer to help in the testing phase, and maybe even offer suggestions as to further improvements such as voice readout for the digital display.

I don't see how this would replace the need for a white cane. After all, GPS system do not have details of steps, low fences or changes in camber, not to mention cars people, road signs etc. I agree that the system could increase the confidence of blind users, but a blind stick would still be needed

Put a blind or sighted person on a Segway with this technology and road hazzard sensors and your getting somewhere.

Automatic individual routing.

One question... What happens if the ring won't come off?
