He's not being pulled over.

It's a police escort.

Fun fact: the "Cops and Donuts" is actually a logical one when you look at the needs of the job.

  • Long shifts and odd hours mean that 24-hour businesses would be the go-to destination for meals. Donut shops were one of the first 'fast-food' places to be open all the time.
  • Donuts are easy to eat one-handed, unlike burgers or tacos, which can spill out.
  • Donuts will keep for a whole day if the needs of the job prevent a regular mealtime; if the donut HAS cone stale, a dip in coffee (another cop staple) restores it to edible condition.
  • Being essentially a sugar-coated white-flower calorie bomb, it provides a quick boost of energy, with sufficient simple carbs to sustain the energy level after the sugar as burnt off. (again, the caffeine in the coffee helps here)
  • The sweetness and 'comfort food'-level carbs can help to give a cop an emotional 'anchor' after dealing with a traumatic situation, such as seeing innocents get injured (or worse) from criminals using deadly force indiscriminately. (Yes, it's "stress eating," and unhealthy, but if the choice is break down and cry, or bury the tears under a Bavarian Creme and and finish the shift, the cop is going to accept the pastry from the fellow officer who just said, "Looks like you could use this.")

In short, it is a near perfect "emergency food" to help an officer get through a rough shift. Not perfect for long-term health, obviously, but it is not as "high risk" as, for example, apprehending criminals that don't want to come along peacefully.

(Yeah, Jim Butcher described it better in one of the Dresden Files books.)

Yes, and Doughnuts are packed with vitamins 'D'-'O'-'U'-'G'-'H'-'N'-'U2' and vitamin 'T' and sometimes vitamin 'S'.

Having no local Krispy Kreme donut shop available,, cops have taken to pulling over their trucks on a regular basis and demanding dozens of doughnuts for escorted passage through town...Krispy Kreme spokesperson Frosty Whol, said this actually happens more than you might think, and that they always include extra doughnuts in their shipments for just this reason....

When we pull them over, be warned, when you question them, they will run rings around you, so, make up your mind what think is right, and what I will agree to.

In response to a complaint by your competitors that you are selling donuts that do not comply strictly with the 'Toroidus Symmetrica' food-shape regulations - we're here to confiscate them - unless we eat them now and say no more about it!.

Unconfirmed chatter on rural police frequency: ''...Uh, Car 54 calling for backup, STAT. Am in pursuit of a highjacked donut shipment. My attempts at ''pick''-maneuvers aren't working on such a heavy vehicle. Hurry! I'm starving...''

The cop car following too close resulted in the invention of maple bacon donuts! "Officer Clark...you didn't die in vain. RIP." (Buried in a pink cardboard box)
