Some odd walled off city with gate house and set back gate tower with a pigeon shed on the rood for receiving and sending messages to the even bigger town not in the picture.

Buildings already underwent last century renovations, new roofs and opening up of spaces.

That small wall next to the tower is weird and could be build to block off traffic noise being more recent.

I was thinking similar in the vein of some Western European, been there forever, hamlet in the foothills of either the Alps or Pyrenees. Different generations and centuries added a little her and a lit there.

Whoopee do.

Last week's building was Alton Station. According to the Landmark Trust, Alton Station was built in 1849 "as part of the Churnet Valley branch for the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR)...

"The stations on the NSR were a particularly fine group, the majority being in a Tudor or Jacobean style, but with the odd appearance of Domestic, Rural and Italianate Styles."

Wow! This was nearly very embarrassing I visited Alton station last year to go on the Real Ale Train (RAT) Fantastic: really worth the money.

The one I went to was in Hampshire: the lower of the two red markers.

I didn't realize there were two (Altons): so it's just quite embarrassing.

The train sounds like a lot of fun! I'll have to remember that if Mr. BIS and I ever travel to your sceptered isle.
