A review of the state-of-the-art of computerized maintenance management/ enterprise asset management (CMMS/EAM) software shows incremental gains in a variety of features and functions. However, the biggest development is the onslaught of vendor mergers and acquisitions, a trend that has caused concern among many about future product support.

Besides the onslaught of mergers and acquiitions is the fact that approximately 30-50 CMMS software companies enter/leave the market every year. This would be a big concern regarding product support as well. There are very few CMMS software companies that have been in business ten (10) or more years. MaintSmart Software, Inc. has been in business over 10 years and has a large following of satified users in 26 countries. Stability of the CMMS provider is of paramount concern in CMMS selection no only because of future support but also as an indication of the quality of the product.
