Vacuum Bomb: Vacuum Bomb Ushers in Cold War 2.0

Posted September 12, 2007 12:31 PM

From Gizmodo:

Nuclear weapons are so last century—these days everyone has them, and international treaties make them virtually impossible to use anyway. That's why Russia has been working on a new type of apocalypse-bringing device, the Vacuum Bomb. It creates a huge and destructive shockwave, but doesn't have any of those pesky fallout side effects. That means you can flatten a country, and safely move right on in there. The bomb was tested this week, dropped from a Tupolev Tu-160—the same bombers that have been buzzing around the UK borders in recent months. Footage released afterwards showed multi-story buildings crumpling, so it looks like the test went pretty well. [

I am not sure that this meets the intent they want, it destroys infrastructure without the kind of effective kill that neutron bombs were supposed to be capable of (this is why neutron bombs were considered so bad, kill everything but leave all the infrastructure, so you can immediately move in and reoccupy). Here they destroy the infrastructure and depend on the destructive effects to kill the occupants. Plus it is probably way too expensive to use where they would actually not care about destroying the infrastructure and rebuilding.

I'm sorry but you got that wrong, the Russian bombers that have been seen buzzing the UK were contra-rotating turbo-prop planes called Bear. Spencer.

The vacuum bomb looks like a variation of the air fuel bomb like The U.S. inc. has been shooting into Taliban caves only bigger.

Not only do you have the blast wave but the air phase changes and you get an implosion. So peak to peak like AC is the power curve not just the flash.

Depletes the O2 as well.

I wounder about the residue? Double acting vehicle fuel with low volume exhaust.

collect the precipitate for reforming.

just an idea
