Big Bear Rescue on the Donner Memorial Bridge

Posted September 19, 2007 3:10 PM

From Telstar Logistics:

The Donner Memorial Bridge is a concrete arch span built during the 1920s near Donner Summit in the Sierra Nevada mountains, not far from Lake Tahoe, California. The bridge used to be part of US Route 40, the primary east-west highway for motorists traveling between San Francisco and Atlantic City, New Jersey until Interstate 80 was constructed during the 1960s. Most of the traffic is gone, but the arched bridge is still there, and the views it provides remain top-notch. Telstar Logistics maintains a Forward Operating Base nearby during the winter months, so our Tactical Recreation Units visit this sector with some regularity. Which is why we took notice when Tahoe City operative Scott Gillespie sent us this wild, wild tale about very large bear that got stuck under the historic bridge last weekend, and how said bear was subsequently rescued.

Great story! I have only one question. What in the whole multiverse is a 'Tactical Recreation Unit'?

Lol, now that bear climbed up there, so i would guess that, unless severely mentally impaired for a bear, it could climb down.

How much of my tax money went to saving a bear from itself. Godd thing they don't waste it on schools, infrastructure and health care in California.

We are the people who rescued the bear from the bridge, The bear did not climb the bridge it went over the side when it was approached by traffic. Both SaveOurSpots.org and the Truckee Bear League are volunteer organizations that recieve no public money. you will soon be able to see the complete video at SaveOurSpots.org

So where's the video? I know people who regard this as a hoax.

It's not a video, but Snopes.com is a pretty good source for hoax exposure. According to them, this is real.
