Why Servo-Pneumatics are Grabbing More Attention

Posted September 25, 2007 11:43 AM

In the mind of many machine control designers, mechatronics rule. Yet, the wise engineer should not rule out pneumatics — even for precision, high-speed applications. An industry overview shows that hybrid machine solutions designed to take advantage of recent advances in pneumatic control (fieldbus interfacing capability, for example) are gaining popularity. Control Design Magazine highlights a number of pneumatic applications that were, until recently, "reserved strictly for electric servos." And, their report predicts even more responsive pneumatic solutions in the future.

Back in the year I last joined a "Start UP" just before the "Dot Comm." era we invented the Automatic Video Vending Machine, AVDM was the company. We decided to use Air Pneumatics as our main mechanical mechanism. It was cheap and efficacious because there was so little to go wrong.

We lost the company to Lawyers who purchased a few patents and won a court deal on one of them. If those busies had not won I would be rich, living in the Bahamas, and probably have not known or herd of you guys.

Thus "The Law Won" and Pneumatics lost. not like the song but close
