Navy covering up swastika barracks

Posted September 28, 2007 9:26 AM

From Boing Boing:

Seen here is a Google Earth image of US Navy barracks in Coronado, California. The US Navy has now budgeted $600,000 to cover up the swastika shape through the installation of solar panels and various landscape modifications. They were encouraged to do the modifications by several parties, including US Rep Susan Davis, Anti-Defamation League regional director Morris Casuto, and radio talk show host Dave vonKleist. Navy officials say the shape of the buildings, designed by local architect John Mock, was not noted until after the groundbreaking in 1967 -- and since it was not visible from the ground, a decision was made not to make any changes... "I don't ascribe any intentionally evil motives to this," Casuto said, referring to the design. "It just happened. The Navy has been very good about recognizing the problem. The issue is over." What the Nazi's did is appaling,

But was'nt the actual swastika derive from a pagan symbol.

And can't it be viewed just as coincidence? Even though it may not be political correct.

Do we really believe that this was drawn by an architect by accident or coincidence?

being such a reconized symbol no,

I googled the architect to check his background,

the design being able to pass approvals only in segents yes as a whole no.

One thing though that could happen by happenstance sometimes the best way to hide something is right in the open, could the architect be so wrapped up in the work itself he did see it? I do not know.

Point I was trying to make and this may not be the best example, is the government goes to extreme measures not to insult, degrade or just trying to be politically correct to go out of the way to comb over the ruffled feathers. especially when I see politicians envolved.

Like I said earlier this may not have been a good example for me to use.

On the contrary, I think it's an excellent example!

Talking of 'Architects', is it acceptable that US bank notes have Masonic emblems on them ? The worlds most fabled democracy has a secrety society emblazoned on it's currency ! We never should have used their gold.

I'm not sure where this thread is going in it's purpose. Byeeeee.....

Oh come on Kris, how can you call Masons a secret society, when they have got all those Coppers as members?

Speaking of copper, I heard about the gold thing on Radio 5 live yesterday. I was amazed that someone said it was alright, it had just got a bit cracked and crumbly! I thought gold was the one true metal that never tarnished etc!

I fink sunnun's bin dun up good an brown...

The symbol is called a Sun Wheel by some and has been around since pre history all over the world.

The swastika symbol has been used by Hindus and Buddhists for thousands of years. Such a simple and aesthetic shape has naturally been used by many cultures. Too bad the Nazis have forever tainted it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

Only in today's overly politically-correct would people make a big deal about the incidental swastika shape of the Navy barracks (I seriously doubt that the architects consciously conspired to create a pro-Nazi message). Many wheel-based device could be interpreted to resemble a swastika. Do we need to "correct" them too? For example:

It was a native american symbol before it was adopted by the nazi's.It was also a local symbol used in a town somewhere in Europe and can still be found there today on the shutters of many houses and businesses, which had nothing to do with the nazis.I want to say it was in Switzerland or somewhere like that but i cant remember at the moment.
