It's a secret your cultured friends don't need to know. "Robo-sommelier" uses infrared sensing technology to taste wines. Its built-in voice then describes the wine, and recommends food pairings. Accurate but limited, the machine can only recognize several dozen of the thousands of varieties of wine.

Sounds interesting... Can you give us a source or more info? I suspect this is really only measuring the IR absorption, but it could be using spectroscopy. I'd like to know.
