Every country 'steals' expertise from others....the USA took the German expertise after WWII. The Japanese, learnt from the USA.

You can't expect any developing country to repeat all the stages of development ... they are going to try and 'leapfrog' right up to the latest technology.

It's what happens...get over it.

Actually the states did the same ole "patented here by a local" bit around the time of the industrial revolution to produce all sorts of goods for domestic use and export and to heck with old world manufacturers, so to say.

They still do it, the Japanese do it better and the Chinese are fast learners though a bit more slapdash at the moment.

Only recently is Edison no longer being trumpeted as the Inventor of the Light Bulb or Transmitted Power. (those in the know already know who did what and when) So same old same old ..

Amusing. Who would have thunk it? Certainly not the US government's Fair Trade experts or the CEOs of big corporations looking to get cheap goods produced in China and sold at high profits in the US. They dont care now anyway as they have their bonuses and are on to their next venture.

Anyone who didnt see this coming is blind as a bat (no offense to the "bats" intended)!

There's plenty of work for the coffee house and lawn mower technician. Now that all the real engineering is done over seas.

Through the years I have seen many engineers take management positions at large factories to promote their bottom line. they supported the idea of cheap labor at any cost. Outsourcing to china being one. Now that the trade unions are finished the over paid engineers will be served the same. What goes around comes around. Skilled labor made to much money, and so it goes for the engineers and management personel who supported this fools folley!!!! I speak from experience, I own and operate a machine shop.

I am an Australian and am working in China. I think that who ever wrote you this is paranoid.

Yes China is building at a very fast pace and yes the US should be worried, but on their outlook to other countries instead of being so self centered.

China wont attack Taiwan ,it has no need to it has won already with Taiwan industries all moving into China. Any conflict there will only be to draw the US into a war,and if the US want to continue with its present attitude to other countries this could happen and it would loose .

China cant be beaten with 1.3 billion plus it other Asian allies amount to 2 .7 billion people, if they lost 50% they still wont be stopped,unless the US uses A Bombs and this would destroy us all.

We had the fall of the Roman empire, then the fall of the Third Reich now it will be the fall of the US next if it does not get over its paranoia.The world revolves around us all not just the US.

I don't think the US domination and its overseas policies are of any use any more and it has to change if it want to survive.because it will become a second world country as Russia is today.

This blog is not about Australians working in China, nor war politics etc., out right.. And yes we all realize that China has serious issues and some others with population control. (Get a day job, if you know what I mean.) It should not be that hard as were sending new business daily.

But, it is about the US engineering industry going down the crapper because of imports and of course many other factors and out sourcing. Beleave me when I say, a lot of us would choose to close the borders and start keeping everything in house if we could.

There are a lot of things that will help this situation and it's mostly going to be in the line of ISO type standards for manufactured goods for export. When China, India and the others have to adhere to the same standards, they will be faced with the same growing costs. Better product will be the out come. As life style changes and economies grow people get greedy and want more, this will change the 2 cents on the dollar for labor etc.. Or things will only get worse in those countries for labor practices.

The US is the leader or atleast has always been in extremely high-end technology, we need as US/American engineers to continue the standards for all others to compare.
