Zelco OUTI Headphones Send The Sounds Through Your Body

Posted December 19, 2007 11:11 AM

From OhGizmo!:

While headphones allow you to listen to your music without disturbing other people, they're also more likely to damage your ears due to the concentrated sounds, and can prevent you from hearing anything else. So as an alternative you might want to try these OUTI headphones from Zelco which actually clip to the outside of your ear and transmit the sounds as vibrations through the skin and cartilage. That way you can listen to your music while still carrying on a conversation for example.

The article was appreciated.

A shiver went through my spine, at the thought of it....

Bone Phones was a stereo you wear around your neck like a scarf.

The speakers were on your collar bone, but turned up loud enough you couldn't hear someone talking next to you but they couldn't hear the music. Excellent sound.

Another Interesting variation on this was: In the early and mid '80s, the late Norm MacLeod, in California, developed an underwater voice communication system which used the diver' body as the antenna... I did some of that testing at the old Marine World-Africa USA in Redwood City.

This technology was later used MacLeod Labs in San Jose to develop a "Measurement while Drilling" system (targeted at the Oil Industry) which took extensive "real-time" down hole measurements, transmitted to the surface via very low frequency signals... It worked!!! Sadly, it was introduced to the market in the late 80s, during a big "BUST" period in the industry.
