Teaming Up to Promote Free Trade

The joint tracking system between the EC and Chinese Ministry will be in place next year. The agreement is a result of damage EU producers suffered after a barrage of exports from China — coupled with significant textile and clothing price reductions. Do you think this joint tracking effort will protect the EC?

Nothing will help much until Chinese wages are roughly equal to EC and US wages. When the wages equalize, then the competition will be in brainpower [technology] and quality. The easiest way to do that is to keep increasing the minimum wage, which will devalue the currency or to get all the workers in the EC and US to work on 3 bowls of rice a day and a pittance for income.


Take the average hourly wages in China, compare them to the average hourly wages in the EC and US to get the percentage of difference. Then tariff all Chinese goods by that percentage, so that cheap labor costs will not give them an unfair advantage. The tracking system will do nothing but show how badly the Chinese are giving everyone the shaft, not correct it.

While I agree with your position, I dont think such a tariff would be acceptable. Besides if the cheap labor Advantage in China were removed, American manufacturers would be forced to make the products in the USA instead of farming them out.
