CES 2008 - $15,000 Tank Chair For The Disabled

Posted January 09, 2008 8:17 AM

From Born Rich:

Designed for the disabled people, the Tank Chair is an off-road, all-purpose wheelchair that’s turning a lot of heads at the CES show. This tough chair is built out of a one-piece steel chassis with the tracks made from ruggedized rubber and lightweight aluminum struts. Boasting a top speed of 5 mph, the Tank Chair Mk II has 24V, 2HP, 127RPM variable speed motor that gets its juice from four Optima Deep Cycle batteries. Its creator claims that the chair can even outpace a golf cart. That sounds great as it would be able to go almost anywhere. Priced at $15,000, the Tank Chair is expected to be available later this month.

www.bornrich.org is the outfit which is pushing this fancy vehicle.

At US$15,000 there are not many disabled folks who will be able to rush out and buy one.

The design is interesting, but useless trying to manage one from the driver's seat, within a house.

Kind Regards....

Actually many electric wheelchairs run over $10k. Fortunately for the users, most of the cost is covered through insurance or government agency's to assist the disabled. I doubt this one will qualify though.
