Europe Push for Greener Aviation

Posted February 05, 2008 8:06 AM

From BBC News | Science/Nature | UK Edition:

Some of the biggest names in European industry have begun a public-private partnership with the EU to produce greener aircraft. Airbus, Dassault, Saab and Rolls Royce are all taking part in the 1.6bn euro (£1.2bn) "clean sky" initiative. Half the money will be raised by the European Union and half by industry.

Personally, I prefer the polished aluminum look. Plus it doesn't add weight to the aircraft like green paint will which adds to the fuel cost and emissions.

Perhaps the green paint is textured, imparting aerodynamic characteristics similar to the surface of a golf ball?

When aviation gets greener....

Aviation has a strong impact on climate. That became clear after September 11th. The US planes were kept on the ground for 3 days. Suddenly the temperature amplitude increased with One degree average as measured on 5000 weather stations. Aviation puts a lot of humidity in the atmosphere reducing solar intensity at the surface.

Forest fires, fires for heating and cooking worldwide contribute to all the particles in the atmosphere that in turn have reduced surface solar intensity by 9-16%. Hence this has a cooling effect on the climate.

If we would eliminate this pollution, climatologists estimate that the climate would heat up even faster than today and we would start melting the Groenland ice cap by 2030. When this cap has melted the sealevel would have risen by 6-7 meters instead of the 30-50 cm currently projected for the coming century. Imagine the side effect if Indians , Africans, Asians and Latin America would suddenly start to use solar cookers and if we stop burning tropical forests.

So we need pollution and planes flying on fuel (causing water vapor and chemtrails) to keep climate from running away too soon???

Funny how everything interacts.....

I just hope humankind will be able to control greenhouse gas emissions before pollution gets less.

Google for "Obscurcissement planétaire" or "Dimming the Sun" to educate yourself and make up your mind about this. There is not so much information about this so far but I got an excellent video on TV lately, an report called "Dimming the Sun" by Duncan Copp. Here are some links.
