Elections and Technology

Posted February 16, 2008 7:51 AM

Technology and elections become more intertwined all the time. Sometimes that takes the form of online voting. At other times, it might mean establishing an economic and legal environment that promotes technology development. Regardless of where in the world you live, technology affects an increasing portion of your life. So, do you have any idea where your political leaders (or candidates) stand regarding technology? If political leaders are going to support technology, where should they focus first? Is it a good thing for governments to get involved in technology issues?

Just the other day I posted that electronic voting machines are my most feared technology... As far as government supporting technology, I would normally be against it in the private sector, but I must say that I really like the 'X Prize" contests. They are the best way for govt to sponsor tech. This keeps the govt from 'steering' the tech, and relegates them to simply setting the goals.
Dollar for dollar Spaceship-One was the US Govt's best bargain by far.
