Did A Mega-collision Alter Venus?

Posted February 28, 2008 9:12 AM

From ScienceDaily: Latest Science News:

A mega-collision between two large embryonic planets could have created Venus as we know it, according to a new paper by a Cardiff University scientist. Venus is a sister planet to Earth. It is nearly the same size and density yet it has a surface temperature of 720 K, an atmosphere dominated by carbon dioxide and no evidence of oceans or ridges. It has been described as "Earth's evil twin".

it could explain why venus has such a young surface. its covered with vulcanic lava everywhere. Even comet collision with earth simulation shows the similar results.

It's certainly not the place to spend a summer holiday.

The theory is credible.

Without a Moon, there would be no tectonic plate separation or breakup.

We here have been rather fortunate, so let's not foul up the only nest we have, thanks.

Kind Regards....

Ockham's razor must have gotten lost while this person came up with that idea!

Why make up something incredibly difficult and hinging on so many assumptions, when the going idea works perfectly well with no, or almost no, assumptions.

Next they are going to say that mercury is the lost moon of ven......wait a minute!

Stay real here, any celestial body that close to our sun will not contain any fluids or gasses that could burn or evaporate. It is most likely that it did contain such items but it has lost it since then. Just look at our other companions, the further away the more gassy they become. This excludes astroids and comets but they are oddballs and Pluto is not a planet anymore.

Yeah, I found it while investigating solar observations. I have made my own solar filter for my scope and am watching for sun spots. None at the moment as we are on the doorstep of the new sun cycle but it will be interesting to follow the development of those that will come up.

Have you vsited their sister site about the 60 foot tower?
