Hygienic Hand Dryer

Posted November 21, 2006 10:00 AM
Pathfinder Tags: digital motors hand dryers

Public washroom dryers blow bacteria-laden air over the hands; rubbing hands together to speed drying works the germs in deeper. The Dyson Airblade claims to circumvent this dubious process with a combination of filtration, vibration, and "digital motor" technologies. Ten seconds dries your hands – hygienically.

And then you leave the restroom grasping the door handle that people who did not even wash their hands had used and which is slightly damp, from someone you hope had washed but not thoroughly dried their hands.

Like one of my teenage granchildren said to me when I told them to always wash their hands after going to the toilet, "but Brunker[ nickname], if I turn the tap on with my "dirty" hands/s then wash them, do I get re-infected when I turn the "dirty" tap handle off again after washing them or do I need to wash both my hands & the tap handle ??? "

I think I read recently that wringing you dry hands together did as much good as washing them !!, I dunno, I'll keep washing mine with soap & water.

If you are worried about germ laden air don't ever go into a Malaysian public toilet or "tandis" when "out-station" , you only stay in there for as long as you can hold your breath !!! You feel like you could scrape bacteria off your skin with a spatula when you come outside & I wasn't a tourist, I lived there for 3 years.

Sounds like more advertising hype than real hazards. Dubious scientific factual information, such as there is.

I agree. Does rubbing the hands work the germs deeper or help to slough them off?

Paper towels have proved in a recent University tests to be cost effective, hygene and even environmentally wise to be on a par with electric dryers, with the HUGE plus point that you can also use them to open the door without touching it after all the dirty B*******S have handled it, without washing their hands!!!.

Paper wins hands down every time........

Unless of course the door is fully automatic and you do not need to touch anything to get in or out!!

Electric is out for me.

I also wash the taps at the same time as I wash my hands, so that even a dirty tap is not a problem.

They say you eat a basket of dirt in your life, just make sure that you don't eat it all in one day.......!
