The Real Reasons Monster Cables Cost So Much [Monster Cable]

Posted March 21, 2008 11:18 AM

From Gizmodo:

We've really dug into whether Monster Cables (or other "premium" brands) are worth the extra cash you've gotta fork over, asking things lke, "Does it really make your audio/video more pristine?" or "Are they better than coat hangers?" And that's the wrong approach. What about the love, sweat and tears that go into making each and every cable? This comic from Joy of Tech rights our wrongs.

If anyone is interested, I am starting a company called Monster Hangers.

I will be selling premium, copper-free, wire coat hangers for all your audio needs.

Note, we have done exhaustive testing of competitors' plastic hangers using scientifically accredited double-deaf experiments and feel our copper-free wire hangers exceed anything else on the market.

Give us a try and see why we say, "You can buy better, but you won't pay more!"

Have you fully considered the Skin Effect? Remember, we're talking ULF here - about 1e-5Hz.

One misplaced fur coat and you're buggered! They could sue the pants off you.

Our engineers already saw that coming. The outer layer is laced with frog hair.

Hello Anonymous Hero

Your hangers are not eco-friendly, like mine, no sirree Bob.

Our Company's hangers are made of wood, the constantly renewable resource, and assembled by a determined team of beavers, who eat the waste chips.

Hand-crafted from recycled swamp willow, and not painted, they are just the thing for all who are eco-friendly, and want the finest hangers for their living room.

Kind Regards....

Here is a good money saving tip.

Buy cheap cables... but flush out the cheap electrons with good quality ones!
Take a good quality battery like 'Duracell' and connect across the lead...be sure to use some sort of load, say a resistor or bulb else you will waste too many good electrons in the resulting sparks.

I do this on all my light bulbs befor fitting...as with that damn AC..the cheap crap electrons never leave the bulb

Monster cables definately aren't worth the $100+ they try to charge you at retail.

The only thing I like about them are the nice metal casing the wire is in. I pick up Monster cables on ebay for under $20 sometimes, otherwise I would go with monoprice.com

Someone has to pay for all the advertising flannel and puffery.

Anyone who buys "Monster Cables" has more money than sense.

"Oxygen-free molecular copper", and "Gold Connectors", indeed.

Kind Regards....

A bottle of wine can easily cost $100 or more. For that money you can get a minor case of alcohol poisoning that makes you think you are feeling good. I don't see the harm in someone coughing up $100 for some cables that make you think you are feeling good, especially since they cause no medical problems.
