Sweeps of human DNA yield discoveries

Posted March 31, 2008 8:45 AM

From Yahoo! News: Science News:

Scientists are scanning human DNA with a precision and scope once unthinkable and rapidly finding genes linked to cancer, arthritis, diabetes and other diseases. It's a payoff from a landmark achievement completed five years ago — the identification of all the building blocks in the human DNA. Follow-up research and leaps in DNA-scanning technology have opened the door to a flood of new reports about genetic links to disease.

I can see major problems looming ahead.

Certain people will be sterlized, to prevent the passing on of defective genes.

Blood samples will be taken at birth, or earlier, and the results given to Insurance Companies, Employers and "The Authorities".

The Accountants will rule, of course, which should be "removed", sterilised, employed and insured.

Natural variable occurrences thus being entirely prevented, the result will be like the Smiths, in the "perhaps more true to life than we like to realize" Movie "The Matrix".

Kind Regards....

Not necessarily.

With worldwide population increasing at an alarming rate, food shortages existing in many parts of the world, and more looming ahead, runaway inflation in developing countries [ 384.70% inflation in Zimbabwe -costs a month's wages for a loaf of bread], tremendous devestation of cities that is expected due to weather caused by global warming...I think we'll see dramatic reductions in the level of populations before any signs of "selective breeding" will occur. The first (undeclared) plan may be to allow certain populations to diminish through unattended or underattended disease and famine, and once there has been a balance established in the supply and demand of food and resources - well maybe then a One World Order could pull off some DNA selection based activity. Have you never once met anyone you thought for just one second, shouldn't be allowed to breed? Strike that last comment.

To All, It is more likely that Nature will decide that the experiment called "Humanity" has run long enough and will start fresh with some thing else.

Many cultures are in jeopardy because of the social/political structure that they have allowed to occur. If you notify those who run your country of your wishes and they do not comply, replace them, by what ever means at your disposal, hopefully peacefully.

I for one will not allow myself the luxury of believing that those in "power" (I use quotes because the people truly have the power) have the best interests of anyone but themselves at heart.

Do what you feel you must, but remember that medicine has not yet devised a way to prepare for genetic drift or mutations, let alone play Creator in deciding what is "junk" DNA and what is not.

Part of the problem as I see it, Drag, is that the majority of people don't know what they want, or don't want to do the work required for change to occur. How many Muslems, Catholics, and followers of other religeous doctrines are members of that particular religeon solely because that was the way they were raised? It's UNTHINKABLE for many to question authority, especially that of the religeous nature. Many have been oppressed to the point that fear of the consequences outweighs desire for change. Africa is a different story. As availability of water drives warlords into villages to murder others that require the same scarce resources, it's not as simple as a matter of choice. In many parts of the world, there is no democracy - leaders are not voted in or out. Elections are rigged in others. Those in positions of power are not about to let the people decide their time is up. Try going into Sudan and gathering a petition to oust the militants that have driven the Sudanese into refugee camps. I have been fighting for human rights for some time and will continue to do so, and I only wish it was as simple as you suggest. We sure could use some help, though. Might want to join Amnesty International, or Genocide Intervention, or another organization and contribute to change.

Dear SPIJman, I completely sympathize with the plight of those in countries the are run by cowards and fools. I am loathe to say this but perhaps it is time for the downtrodden to take up arms.

I once saw a man with a strong bow decimate an entire squad of soldiers armed with rifles, although the rifles had greater range, because he knew the land and had prepared for them. Imagine what several hundred Sudanese could do with the hunting and stalking knowledge of their fathers?

My hopes for a better day, Dragon

P. S. I was raised Catholic but I am feeling much better now.
