1806: Isambard Kingdom Brunel is born in Portsmouth, England. His engineering works will change the face of Britain and British commerce with railroads, bridges, tunnels, docks and ships. Brunel was the greatest civil engineer of his day. He thought big and he built big. He was also an entrepreneur. He raised big money for his ventures, and some of his biggest lost big. But some of his best projects are still hard at work today.

Current thinking and compartmentilisation of engineers almost prohibits the emegance of another IBK. It's always easier to be a giant if your first one in.

Brunel would be a giant in any era, he had completed his education and was in charge of the Thames tunnel at 19! He has a record for innovation in more fields then any other engineer then I can think of.
