HP Memristor makes RAM obsolete

Posted May 02, 2008 9:05 AM

From Newlaunches.com:

Hewlett Packard scientists have come up with a new type of memory that allows data to be stored in circuitry even after the power is switched off. The technology called memristor is being hailed as a huge breakthrough. If all of the bugs can be worked out, the technology has massive potential. It could include benefits like computers that power up instantly, cell phones that go much longer without a charge and data loss in the case of power failures or battery death could be a thing of the past.

Seems very interesting but even the source article leaves out a lot of the details, especially price and how soon they could be commercially available. (means probably a ways off)

Give it another 5 years minimum, and perhaps a few $$$Billion of development, and we may see the first commercial uses of such technology.

<"If all of the bugs can be worked out, the technology has massive potential."> An interesting comment, which could be applied to free fuel "water-powered cars", and many other "over the edge" ideas too.

In the meantime, I am committed to present-day technology, because it all integrates and works.

Kind Regards....
