Could You Save Yourself by "Tweeting?"

Posted May 10, 2008 8:17 AM

By typing "arrested" into his cell phone and sending the text message to his friends on Twitter, a micro-blogging site, a journalism grad student was able to secure his release from his lockup in Egypt. In effect, he "tweeted" his release via a social networking site. Oh, is that what text messaging is for? While many view text messaging with disdain, the "thumb" tribe (or thumb generation) see the function as an indispensable tool entering text on tiny keyboards for extended periods of time. Other than sending directions, what kind of functions would make text messaging useful for you?

Oh you havn't noticed the TXNRMLENG button then.

Dunno what the fuss is about...it sounds a very thin story...surely an ordinary call to his folks would have had the same effect...It's hardly as if his phone magically transported him out of the cell!

He could always have rubbed his finger on the wall til it was sore...taken the saw...cut through the bars...shouted til he was hoarse ...got on the horse and rode away!

Quiet Sunday eh Kris? Too hot to do owt'

That's a better solution - a 'Swiss Army Phone', complete with serrated edge, nail-clippers, pencil sharpener etc (oops, sorry, you don't need the last one)

In the Good Old USA - that would never happen - no personal items allowed in your cell!

Egypt - yes - maybe NO!???

Voice reconigition avilable so I could speak the words, save my thumb and then send to one or many without ever touching the keyboard or the phone for that matter.

Vocie activited and voice commanded.

Would make it easier for some with no thumbs like some of our returning soldiers.
