Drone planes research hurricanes

Posted May 27, 2008 8:49 AM

From BBC News | Science/Nature | UK Edition:

As the hurricane season takes off in the US so too will drone planes which will fly into the eye of the storms. It is part of an ongoing project funded by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa) to monitor the Earth's atmosphere. The planes will send back a continuous stream of information which researchers say will allow them to predict the intensity of hurricanes. But the remote control planes will not be able to take off from the US.

I do note that the BBC website is very fast at delivering the video advertisement which arrives before the clip on the drone plane.

Over 10 minutes later, I am still awaiting arrival of the promised 1:18sec video clip, and it has just started arriving in bits and pieces.

It appears that the BBC Site has a large Bandwidth for the advertisement, and a smaller reduced bandwidth for the actual video.

So, after waiting another 8+ minutes, to receive the first 45 seconds of that 1:18 video clip, which is still arriving in fits and starts, I gave up.

I am not on a dial-up connection, either.

Kind Regards....
